# **Gert van Staalduinen:**
### “Being able to add value through knowledge and experience: that’s what makes my work rewarding.”
## Project Engineer: Gert's story
Gert van Staalduinen has been part of the Van der Valk Horti Systems team as a Project Engineer since 1 January 2011. He initially worked across both Horti and Solar, but deliberately chose to focus on Horti following the split. “Here, I get to work with a variety of systems and make greater use of my knowledge. The technical side of the horticultural sector makes my work challenging and very rewarding.”
## “The combination of technology and innovation makes it challenging.”
In his role, Gert is responsible for tasks including creating project drawings, developing clear, IKEA-style technical manuals, and managing and developing internal and external software, including the ValkHortiPlanner.
“What I enjoy most is the variety in my work,” Gert explains. “One day, I’m working on technical drawings and solving complex problems, while the next I might be improving our software tools. That combination of technology and innovation makes the work challenging. What I find most rewarding is being able to make a real contribution through my knowledge and experience.”
## “I’m proud of the development of the ValkHortiPlanner.”
One recent milestone that Gert is particularly proud of is the continued development of the ValkHortiPlanner. “It’s great to see how the software is increasingly tailored to meet our needs, as well as those of our customers and the wider market. It’s becoming easier and quicker for users to calculate project costs.”
As someone from the Westland region, the horticultural sector is a natural fit for Gert’s interests. “I enjoy working in this sector because of its technical nature. There are always challenges to tackle, and that motivates me. It’s rewarding to use my knowledge and expertise to contribute to innovative solutions at Van der Valk Horti Systems.”
## “The friendly, open atmosphere makes work even more enjoyable.”
For Gert, the friendly and open atmosphere makes working here even more enjoyable. The variety in his work and the opportunity to put his knowledge to use also contribute to this. “And let’s not forget the company ski trip every other year, I absolutely love it! It’s a great opportunity to get to know colleagues in a different setting and catch up with people you don’t get to speak to every day.”
